Secretary of state's office plans session
The Notary Division of the secretary of state's office will hold a free notary training class 8:30 a.m.-noon Wednesday at North Las Vegas City Hall for current and aspiring notary publics.

Auditions begin Monday for new year
Auditions for the new school year will begin 9 a.m. Monday at the Las Vegas Academy, 315 S. Seventh St.
All enrollments require an audition and a 2.0 grade point average. Students must obtain application and audition information by calling 799-7800, Ext. 219.
Church to host eight-part series
The eight-part series about relationships, "Bad Dates, Roommates and Soul Mates," will begin Saturday at Central Christian Church, 1001 New Beginnings Drive, Henderson.
Each week a new relationship topic will be addressed: Habits of Highly Effective Daters; Happily Ever After ... and other Marital Myths; Intimacy 101; and Fuel for Great Relationships and Sexual Junk Food.
Central Christian Church is a non-denominational church committed to meeting the needs of people. Call 735-4004.
Montandon will receive Lions award
The Las Vegas chapter of the Lions Club International will present North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon its Humanitarian of the Year Award at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Castaways hotel, 2800 Fremont St.
Montandon was selected on the basis of a multitude of community and charity-related projects he has helped organize and implement.
Convention industry provides student aid
Eight industry-funded scholarships have been awarded to students studying convention management at UNLV.
GES exposition Services funded four $2,500 scholarships, which went to Jason Aubin, Matt Gleason, Gareth Roberts and Vendi Sjahlendra.
The Rose Schwartz Memorial Scholarship for $2,000, sponsored by Chuck Schwartz of ConVexx Inc., was awarded to Danielle Lee; the Charles E. Naylor Memorial Scholarships of $1,500, funded by the TWI Group, were awarded to Jill Hamasaki and Sang Park; and the Brian Moriarity Memorial Scholarship for $2,000, from the Southwest Chapter of the International Association for Exhibition Management, was awarded to Robyn Hadden.
Las Vegas entertainment lawyer Mark G. Tratos
was named Industry Leader of the Year by the Tourism and Convention Administration Department at UNLV. Each year an outstanding industry leader is selected by the TCA department from one of the academic areas taught in the department.
