UNLV basketball recruit Marcus Banks was selected to a 10-player team that will represent the U.S. in the COPABA Tournament of the Americas, starting today in Neuquen, Argentina.
Banks, a Las Vegan who became a Juco All-American at Dixie College in St. George, Utah, will join the Rebels this season as their No. 1 backcourt recruit.
The U.S. team is comprised of junior college players, including Utah Valley forward Seth Scott, whom UNLV is recruiting for 2002. The players earned their spots in a six-day training camp at Vincennes (Ind.) Junior College, and the team is coached by Vincennes' Dan Sparks.
The 10-team competition, which ends Aug. 26, is the zone qualifying tournament for the 2002 FIBA World Championship for Men, to be held in Indianapolis.
