Nellis begins third session of 2001
Nellis Air Force Base on Saturday began its third 2001 Red Flag exercise, which is scheduled to conclude Sept. 7.
Crews from Italy, Israel, United Kingdom, Singapore and Canada will join the Air Force in this exercise.

Lanes closed on Rancho Drive
Lane closures are in effect this week on Rancho Drive between Alta Drive and U.S. 95 and Durango Drive west of the U.S. 95.
Traffic lanes on Rancho Drive northbound from Alta Drive to the freeway ramps will narrow from three lanes to two lanes until October.
The Public Works Department is continuing a $10 million Rancho Drive Sewer Installation Project that will take approximately 12 months to complete. The sewer project consists of a two-mile section of Rancho Drive between Alta Drive and Coran Lane.
Durango west of U.S. 95 is closed to traffic through April 2002 for utility relocation and construction of the Durango interchange. Access to the western frontage road can be made at Centennial Parkway or Kyle Canyon Road.

Warnings issued over reports
Candidates in the 2000 election who did not file their Contribution and Expenditure Reports, or filed them late, will have until Sept. 10 to respond to letters sent by the attorney general's office on Friday.
The secretary of state's office recorded 60 candidates whose delinquency required further action by the attorney general's office.
If the candidates do not file the reports and pay the imposed fine, then legal action will be brought against them.

Victim believed stabbed to death
North Las Vegas Police are investigating the homicide of an unidentified woman who was found dead near Owens Avenue and Bruce Street.
The victim was found lying in the roadway in the 2000 block of East Webb Avenue in front of a duplex apartment.
The cause of death has not been determined pending an autopsy, but investigators say the woman was possibly stabbed to death.
The victim is described as black, about 30 years old and was wearing a green top and skirt.

Suspect sought in woman's death
An arrest warrant has been issued for a second suspect in the July 6 killing of a 21-year-old Henderson woman.
Police are looking for Curtis Powers, who also goes by the names "Gotti" and "Iceberg Slim," in connection with the slaying of Miranda Johnson.
Powers, 23, is described as a light-skinned black man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Police arrested James Turner, Jr. on July 10 and charged him in Johnson's homicide. A third suspect in the case has not been identified.

Car collides with SUV
A 34-year-old woman was killed and five people were injured Saturday afternoon when two cars collided at Russell and Sandhill roads.
Kristine Hart of Henderson was driving a 1995 Mercury southbound on Sandhill when she apparently failed to stop for a red signal, Metro Police said. A 2001 GMC Yukon, carrying five people was headed westbound on Russell when the two cars collided.
The driver of the Mercury suffered critical injuries and was taken to University Medical Center, where she later died. The five people in the Yukon suffered only minor injuries.
Woman shot, then set on fire
A woman set on fire Saturday morning along State Route 168 near Moapa was shot to death, likely at a different location, Metro Police said.
Police said a man was seen earlier in the area where the body was found about 1 1/2 miles west of Interstate 15. A blue-green sedan with the trunk open was nearby.
The woman had not been identified this morning but was described as white, 30 to 50 years old, about 5 feet tall and weighing about 100 pounds, police said.
