Las Vegas hotel closing to public Monday

Friday, Aug. 10, 2001 | 10:53 a.m.

The 22-year-old Maxim hotel-casino will shut its doors to the public Monday, hotel employees said today.

The hotel's reservations department will be closed Saturday night, and the final night guests will be checked in Sunday evening. The property will close to the public Monday at 5 p.m., after the final guests have checked out, and the front desk department will then be shut down.

However, employees said, hotel operations employees will continue working through Friday, Aug. 17, the original closure date provided in the 60-day notice of closure provided to workers in June. The property's closure is putting an estimated 270 people out of work.

The 795-room hotel, located east of the Strip on Flamingo Road, was purchased out of bankruptcy for $10 million by Houston-based Revanche LLC more than a year ago. Revanche officials say they have been trying to locate a buyer since that time, but have been unsuccessful. The decision to close, they said, was based on the Maxim's continuing losses.

The Maxim's casino has been closed since November 1999, when the property was shut down for a month by its former operator.
