Letter: Power company hurting seniors
Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001 | 10:22 a.m.
It is incredible that Nevada Power Co. should establish a tier of rates, which punishes senior citizens on fixed incomes at a time when they so desperately need air conditioning to survive.
What is even more astounding is the fact that our elected and appointed officials appear to have done nothing to protest this injustice, but apparently hope it will go away instead of investigating why Nevada Power needs this exorbitant increase.
Since we have been asked to cut our consumption, this utility should show where it has cut its operating costs before asking for any increases.
