Letter: Goodman would make a great governor
Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001 | 10:21 a.m.
Gov. Kenny Guinn has said he has no intention of disclosing which taxes he will ask of the next Legislature until (or if) he is re-elected.
However, he plans a task force which will consist mainly of either gaming lobbyists or education pros, both of whom Guinn is particularly fond.
He won't specify which taxes he will ask to be imposed, although on the tax agenda are property, sales, gross receipts, mining (not likely) services, business employees, slot route operators and car rental companies.
As one can see at a glance, every one of those suggested taxes will come down on us, the taxpayers. Isn't it ironic that with that long list of possible increases there is no mention of gaming taxes being increased? What favoritism!
We need a governor who the people respect, like and trust, not a toady for the gaming industry. I truly hope that Mayor Oscar Goodman can be coaxed into running for governor. He would be a shoo-in!
