The Department of Energy is asking the public to comment on a proposed wind farm at the Nevada Test Site that could generate 600 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 300,000 homes.
The DOE's National Nuclear Security Administration will accept comments until Aug. 24 on possible environmental impacts from running up to 545 wind turbines on more than 1,000 acres at the Test Site, 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
The first meeting is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 16 at the Nevada Operations Office, 232 Energy Way, North Las Vegas.
The second meeting is set for 6 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 17 in Pahrump's community center.
Written comments may be sent to Kevin Thornton, National Nuclear Security Administration, Nevada Operations Office, P.O. Box 98518, Las Vegas, NV 89193-8518 or e-mail them (nepa@nv.doe.gov).
