Hotel-casino accused of cash-handling violation

CARSON CITY -- The state Gaming Control Board on Monday filed a complaint against Harvey's Resort Hotel-Casino at Lake Tahoe, charging it violated an accounting regulation aimed at preventing money laundering.
The board asks the resort at Stateline be fined an unspecified amount. Harvey's has 20 days to answer the complaint and ask for a hearing before the state Gaming Commission. Or it can negotiate a settlement with the board.
The complaint said an undercover state agent in May deposited $4,000, all in $20 bills at the casino cage. The agent returned that night and took out a $600 marker against the front money deposit.
The following day, he returned to settle up his account for the remaining $3,400. He was given $100 bills by the cashier, the state alleged.
State rules say the same bills must be given back when the patron settles up or the casino must return only cash of the same denomination.
