Friday, Aug. 3, 2001 | 10:07 a.m.
Red-hot Mark Kiefer got his seventh straight win, striking out 12, allowing three hits and walking none in seven shutout innings as Las Vegas routed Colorado Springs on Thursday before 2,919 at Cashman Field.
Kiefer (8-6) has been outstanding the last two months. In his last nine starts, he is 7-1 with a 1.05 ERA, 75 strikeouts and 10 walks in 59 innings.
Phil Hiatt and Chris Donnels hit two-run homers and Angel Pena added a solo shot for the 51s (55-58) in the opener of a four-game series. It was Hiatt's PCL-leading 35th homer, one off Las Vegas' club record.
In player moves, the 51s got back lefty Jeff Williams from the Dodgers and sent catcher John Pachot and outfielder Luke Allen to double-A Jacksonville.
Tonight at 7, Las Vegas sends lefty Victor Alvarez (6-2, 4.17) against SkySox righthander Jason Jennings (6-7, 5.57).
