Channel 5 offers help for children

For the month of August, KVVU Channel 5 will present "Take Five for Kids," a program that will target families in transition and assist youth by supply school supplies and backpacks.

The following drop-off sites have been established: Nevada Children's Center, 2929 S. Decatur Blvd.; Jaynes Corporation, 2964 Mead Ave.; James Gibson Library, 280 Water St.; and Lydia Malcolm Library, 80 N. Pecos Road.

Henderson recreation plans Saturday event

The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department invites residents to take part in a bring-your-own pool party 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Morrell Park, 500 Harris St.

Admission is free for all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Call 565-2121.

Career advancement scholarship given

Coby Abbott, who will be attending the Community College of Southern Nevada, has received a national Business and Professional Women Career Advancement scholarship through the Business and Professional Women's Foundation.

Since 1970 the BPWF awarded more than 7,000 scholarships to women 25 years of age and older, who are seeking the education necessary for entry or re-entry into, or advancement with the work force.
