Nevada claims adjusters sue over wages
Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001 | 11:02 a.m.
A group of claims adjusters for Farmers Insurance Exchange and Farmers Insurance Co. sued the two insurance claims processing companies and an executive, alleging they violated Nevada labor laws when they refused to pay the adjusters overtime compensation.
Six claims adjusters in Farmers' Las Vegas and Washoe County offices, on behalf of a class of more than 100 Farmers' senior and special claims adjusters, sued the companies and Susan Bithell, Farmers' state executive for Nevada, in Clark County District Court.
Farmers, which the suit claims regularly requires the plaintiffs to work at least 50 hours to 60 hours in a work week, were accused of miscalculating the plaintiffs' compensation and other benefits when they failed to include overtime pay.
The defendants could not be reached for comment.
