Nevada Power pulls fast one
Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001 | 8:53 a.m.
It seems that Nevada Power, in a play for sympathy and understanding from the public, is running full-page ads and is now having public meetings after the huge rate hike that sent my power bill soaring to $330.
Its excuses have been so we won't experience a shortage or blackouts like California, or soaring prices. Well, guess what? We have the soaring prices my relatives do not have in Southern California.
We had one hour out of one day with a blackout and that caused such distress to Nevada Power that it ran to the Public Utilities Commission begging for a huge raise. Now the public meetings are utility-friendly for us to understand how they need money for growth and expand and such.
When will the next raise come? The weak and pathetic PUC is not the tolerant parent it should be in looking out for the public's interest first. It caters to the utility companies with raise after raise.
This smacks of unmitigated greed! We have been duped with a smoke and mirror act. Where is your outrage?
