Letter: Bush critic is out of touch
Monday, April 30, 2001 | 9:47 a.m.
I was reading my April 17 issue of the Sun on a flight to Chicago on National Airlines.
Sid Sherman wrote a letter to which I felt I had to respond. Sherman has the temerity to accuse Americans who approved of the president's handling of the downed plane and crew in China of being rednecks who only read comics and the sports page.
Well, Sherman, I'm not a redneck, and I read the whole paper, including sports, and one or two comics; and I approve of President Bush's approach. I guess we can't all be intellectuals like Sherman.
He makes a statement that if a Chinese plane came in our air space it would promptly be shot down. Sherman, are you not aware of all the Soviet planes that were in American air space, without a single one being downed?
It's really you, isn't it, who only reads sports and comics.
For my part, I had all I want of our Chinese "friends" in Korea during the war.
