CARSON CITY -- Gov. Kenny Guinn's plan to split the mammoth state Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety cleared the Senate Thursday by a vote of 21-0.
Though the measure won't save money initially it is expected to allow for better and closer management of the agencies, lawmakers say.
The Public Safety Department will consist of the Division of Investigations, the Nevada Highway Patrol, Emergency Management, fire marshal, Parole and Probation, Capitol Police and training. Motor Vehicles will deal mainly with the registration and driver's licenses.
