Letter: Very few places for off-road vehicle recreation
Thursday, April 26, 2001 | 9:03 a.m.
This is in response to the April 11 letter from Jeremy Garncarz:
It is true that some areas need to be set aside as wilderness, but more than 97 percent of all wilderness areas in the West were not roadless, and every one in Southern Nevada has a road running through it. As a lifetime Las Vegas resident, I have seen thousands of miles of land locked up.
In a state where more than 90 percent of the land is federally owned, there are very few places you can go to enjoy your off-highway vehicle. There are more than 5 million acres of wilderness in Nevada, but only 9,000 acres are set aside for off-highway vehicle use.
