Metro Police are investigating the death of a 33-year-old man inside the Las Vegas City jail April 12.
A jail nurse injected Shawki Sinayoko with an anti-psychotic drug on a doctor's orders after the inmate was allegedly acting bizarrely in the jail. He became unconscious minutes later and died, Lt. Wayne Petersen of the homicide unit said.
The cause of death is still pending further testing by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
Petersen said homicide detectives are investigating the case because Sinayoko died in custody. He added there was no force used on Sinayoko.
Sinayoko had been in the city jail, at 400 E. Stewart Ave., since April 9 on a contempt of court charge, Petersen said.
The Las Vegas jail is run by the city Department of Detention and Enforcement.
