Henderson offering pine trees to kids
The city of Henderson and the Henderson Commemorative Beautification Commission is inviting residents to take part in the city's annual Arbor Day celebration to be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water St.
Each child who attends will be given a 1-gallon pine tree to take home and plant.
The event will include certified arborists performing tree-climbing demonstrations and original skits presented by members of the Basic High School drama club.
The city's commemorative tree, donated by the LandWell Co., will also be planted. For more information, call 565-2057.
Memory Lane flower show on Saturday
The Sunset Garden Club will hold its ninth annual flower show, "Memory Lane," 12:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday in the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway.
Anyone can enter this year's show. Entries can be made in each of eight different divisions. Entries in design require advance reservations.
General rules for all exhibitors are published in the program, available for those interested in entering any category.
Some entries must be made of all fresh plant materials, while others allow for use of dry or fresh, but no silk or other artificial plant materials can be used.

Annual concert set Friday at UNLV
The sixth annual RebelPalooza Concert will begin 4 p.m. Friday at UNLV's North Field, located northeast of the Thomas & Mack Center parking lot.
Support acts will include Grammy-nominated reggae group Wailing Souls, Latin group Los Villains (sons of Los Lobos), female punk group Rayko, rock group Downer, alternative rock group Fall in Line, pop punk group No Motiv, dangerous rock group Oxygen, glam rock group Powder, classic rock group Revolver and boy group 4 Now.
Admission is $10 to the public. UNLV students who show a valid identification card will receive free admission. Tickets may be purchased from Ticketmaster.com or by calling 474-4000.
Event to benefit diabetes association
The American Diabetes Association and PacifiCare of Nevada will host the 2001 "Reach for the Stars Gala," honoring Thomas Schoeman, president of JMA Architecture Studios beginning 6 p.m. Saturday with a silent auction at the Las Vegas Hilton.
The goal of this year's program is to raise $100,000 for the American Diabetes Association, an organization whose mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by the disease.
