Dr. Ray Alden III was named as UNLV's provost following a nationwide search, university officials announced Tuesday.
As provost, Alden will be in charge of the university's 14 colleges, which offer 180 undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees collectively.
Alden had served as interim provost since August and is the former dean of the College of Sciences at UNLV. His appointment must still be confirmed by the Board of Regents for approval.
