Softball: Rebels settle for split with Aztecs
Monday, April 23, 2001 | 10:21 a.m.
The UNLV softball team split a Mountain West Conference doubleheader at San Diego State on Saturday. The Aztecs (28-20, 4-6) took the opener 1-0 and the Rebels (25-21, 6-6) won the nightcap 8-2.
In the opener, the Aztecs scored the lone run on a walk, sacrifice bunt and an error. Freshman hurler Kacey Ellis went the distance for the Rebels in the losing cause but dropped her ERA to a team-best 2.07 on the year.
The second game began with the Rebels taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer by Racheal Goodpaster -- her eighth HR of the season. UNLV added four runs in the second to put the game out of reach.
