March passenger counts up
Monday, April 23, 2001 | 11:06 a.m.
McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas reported a 7.9 percent increase in traffic in March, with 3.5 million passengers flying in and out.
Traffic for the first quarter totaled 9.3 million, a 6.1 percent increase from 2000's first quarter.
Southwest Airline's 19.6 percent increase in passenger counts was due, in part, to having 20 more flights now than a year ago. Las Vegas-based National Airlines, which had a 37.9 percent increase to 200,673 passengers for the month, also had more flights.
America West, which moved about 10 percent of its night flights to earlier arrivals and departures, had 40.5 percent more passengers to 649,663.
The No. 3 and No. 4 carriers serving the airport reported fewer passengers, with United down 5.6 percent to 283,765, and Delta down 11.9 percent to 227,843.
