Friday, April 20, 2001 | 9:50 a.m.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Left fielder Ross Gload's solo home run leading off the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie and led the Iowa Cubs to a 3-2 victory over the Las Vegas 51s on Thursday night at Sec Taylor Stadium.

Gload hit his home run to right field off 51s reliever Chad Ricketts (0-1).

Las Vegas (5-9) had tied the game in the top of the eighth on a long home run over the left-field fence by right fielder Jeff Barry.

Joey Nation picked up the win for the Cubs (7-8) in relief of starter Nate Teut, who had limited Las Vegas to just four hits and one run over the first seven innings.

The teams conclude their series tonight with Onan Masoaka (0-2, 16.20 ERA) starting for Las Vegas against Iowa's Scott Kamieniecki (1-1, 2.25).

Las Vegas opens an eight-game homestand at Cashman Field on Saturday night with a 7:05 game against the Calgary Cannons.
