NLV council orders foreclosure on home

The North Las Vegas City Council Wednesday night directed City Attorney Sean McGowan to begin foreclosure action on the home of Ron Anderson, who the council determined was in breach of a 1996 agreement to purchase a home in Walker Park.
Anderson was among many North Las Vegas residents offered new homes in Walker Park after their residences in Windsor Park were damaged by subsiding soil.
Anderson's attorney, Patrick Nohrden, said he plans to seek an injunction against the city to prevent it from taking Anderson's home on 1516 Golden Sea Lane near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Carey Avenue.
"The remedy is not to take his home away from him, but to require Mr. Anderson to pay back a certain amount of money to the city," Nohrden said.
Also Wednesday night, a proposed senior housing complex was killed by the City Council.
The council denied a zoning change because members were concerned about the proximity of the 108-unit project to a rural residential neighborhood.
"There's a desperate need for senior housing, but I think the location is not the place to locate this project," Councilwoman Stephanie Smith said of the proposal for low-income seniors on LaMadre Way and Goldfield Street near Lone Mountain Road.
Neighbors had a number of concerns, including the lack of transportation for seniors, compatibility with the surrounding homes and the proximity to an elementary school and a high school.
