Currently: West, a first baseman and designated hitter, has started 28 games and played in 36 for the 24-13-1 Sun Devils, ranked No. 15 in the nation. The 5-11, 190-pounder has started his collegiate career with some robust offensive numbers: a .361 batting average, 30 RBIs, 16 extra-base hits (including six homers) and a team-best .648 slugging percentage. West went 4-for-5 Saturday to help his club to a 14-4 win over Pac-10 foe Washington State.

Looking back: One of Southern Nevada's most consistent hitters, West batted .384, .319, .603 and .488 during his four varsity seasons, earning selection to the Sun all-state team three straight years. A key member of the Skyhawks' 2000 4A state championship and 1999 American Legion state title teams, West's prep career was highlighted by a four-homer, 10-RBI performance in the '99 Legion State Tournament.
