The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City plans to open a store at the Desert Passage mall at the Aladdin, its 14th store in the country.
The Met's 3,000-square-foot store is set to open around the first of June, said Sally Pearson, the museum's vice president and general manager of merchandise and retail. The stores sell products and reproductions based on original works of art from the famed New York museum.
"Vegas has one of the highest sales per square foot (rates) in the entire country, so we know it's the hot place to be," Pearson said. "The whole theme of the Aladdin is Morocco, India, Africa ... since our (retail) product reflects our collection, it really was a perfect match (with Desert Passage)."
Pearson also said the museum was swayed by the availability of retail space near the Desert Passage's entrance on the Strip.
