Letter: Discrimination often sugarcoated

After reading Mel Lipman's April 8 letter, I would like to express my outcry at the way public officials discriminate in Clark County and sugarcoat it as support.

I'm talking about being discriminated against for grieving the death of my parents and reporting some of the harassing behavior I received in Clark County Human Resources. I learned that in return for my complaint I would be supported to run for public office, but not before the leaders who remained behind the scenes took control of my life and stripped me emotionally and financially.

After joining many organizations out of despair and need of friendship, I quickly learned that by being a member of organizations, such as the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, I may look good to the public when I go to run for office. But why do I have to prove to the public that I am associated with organization or church "xyz" in order to be considered a good or trustworthy leader?

I'm with Mel Lipman. I do not think taxpayer dollars or public officials should support such discriminatory organizations or show them on their resume. The next time I learn that someone running for office is flaunting their association with any organization that discriminates, I for one will not vote for that individual. We need new leadership in Nevada, leaders who are not dysfunctional or discriminatory. Unfortunately, I won't be that voice because I cannot be owned by the behind-the-scenes people who discriminated against me and covered it up.
