Las Vegas area fishing report

Updated April 18, 2001

LAKE MEAD: Even though warm weather has brought improvement to the fishing, overall angler success continues to be below par for striped bass and fair for largemouth bass.

Boaters report they have had some successs for small stripers in the Muddy River area and that stripers have finally begun to appear at the Meat Hole near Echo Bay. Stripers have also been caught during the past week at Sand Island, Las Vegas Bay, the 33 Hole and Pumphouse Cove in the Boulder Basin.

The better action for largemouth bass has been taking place in coves in the Overton Arm. Spinner baits and artificial worms cast in shallow coves have been catching the fish.

LAKE MOHAVE: Striped bass continue to be caught by boaters who are trolling anchovies near Owl's Point and still fishing in the narrows above Cottonwood Cove. Otherwise there has been relatively slow fishing and light fishing pressure on the lake.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is scheduled to stock rainbow trout Friday at Willow Beach.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Very good fishing for stocked rainbow trout has been taking place due to heavy planting by the Nevada Division of Wildlife. Anglers fishing with Powerbait from shore have been taking limits of five rainbow trout in just over an hour.
