SHAWNEE, Okla. -- The Shawnee Absentee Tribe is about to begin work on a casino and travel plaza that tribal officials say will generate nearly 900 jobs.
"We're breaking ground in May. This is going to be a reality," said James Edwards, governor of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe.
The 240,000-square-foot facility is to be built off Interstate 40 and State Highway 9A at the Earlsboro exit. Edwards said it will be built in two parts, with Phase I costing about $50 million.
