DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Iowa Cubs had hit just four homers in their first 12 games of the 2001 season.
Then came Tuesday night's contest with the Las Vegas 51s.
The Cubs smacked two home runs en route to a 5-3 victory over the 51s, including a two-run game-winner by right fielder Todd Dunwoody with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Left fielder Ross Gload also hit a three-run shot in the fourth inning to give Iowa a 3-0 lead.
Las Vegas (4-8) battled back to tie it, 3-3, with a three-run rally in the top of the fifth highlighted by right fielder Jeff Barry's two-run single.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when Iowa first baseman Hee Seop Choi led off with a bloop single to left off Las Vegas reliever Mark Kiefer.
Following a flyout to right by Gload, Dunwoody hit his first home run of the season.
