Letter: It’s time to turn down those boom box levels
Thursday, April 12, 2001 | 8:24 a.m.
It looks as though finally others, beside myself, are wanting something done with boom box noise levels thanks to Assemblywoman Vonne Chowning and Assembly Bill 481. It's now more prevalent than ever and we're not targeting any particular race.
It's annoying to hear shattering bass up to a mile away in the quiet of the night, plus the filthy language from some. Depending on the entity, 50 to 75 feet is the legal noise limit.
This is a misdemeanor when cited, so don't get belligerent to the police and argue they should be out chasing bad guys because you consider this situation minor. This minor situation can turn ugly, lead to road rage, hearing problems or even death.
You are willfully breaking the law and it's time all entities enforce this ordinance. Businesses doing the selling and or installing should have a set wattage limit on any amplifier being installed that's not factory equipped.
This noise can make it unsafe for drivers who may not hear an emergency vehicle approaching. Let's stop it now before someone becomes another statistic.
