Man accused in relatives' deaths
A Las Vegas man accused of killing his sister and grandparents in February has been ruled incompetent and has been sent to a state mental hospital in Sparks for treatment.
Deputy District Attorney Robert Daskas said two doctors have determined that Dante Pattison, 21, does not understand the nature of the charges he faces, nor can he assist in his own defense.
As a result, Pattison, 21, was sent to Lake's Crossing late last month for treatment in the hopes he can regain his competency and face three counts of murder.
Pattison is accused of shooting Carrie Pattison-Adric, Yoshio Kato, 82, and Sally Kato, 75.
Girl, 2, ruled beaten to death
A Sept. 17 trial date has been set for a Las Vegas couple accused of beating a 2-year-old girl to death in January.
Charles Felipa and Elizabeth Calvillo face first-degree murder and child abuse charges in connection with the death of Calvillo's daughter, Viridiana Lizeth Flore-Calvillo.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Vicky Monroe said an autopsy revealed that two to four days before she died the child suffered internal injuries during a beating.
Hearing planned for LV woman
A Las Vegas woman who asked two men to beat her husband and then ended up charged with murder when he died could soon lose her her freedom.
Chief Deputy District Attorney L.J. O'Neale asked District Judge Lee Gates Wednesday to set a probation revocation hearing date in the Judith Brown case.
Brown, 43, was placed on probation in January 1999 by District Judge Jeffrey Sobel, but apparently took off and failed to complete any of the requirements for probation, O'Neale said.
According to authorities, Brown asked Ted Rustin and Thompson Yazzie in July 1997 to assault her husband, Gerald, after he gave her a beating. But Gerald Brown died.
The revocation hearing is scheduled for April 25.
