Woman, 39, killed in crash

Wednesday, April 11, 2001 | 10:42 a.m.

A 39-year-old Las Vegas woman was killed Tuesday in a rollover accident that seriously injured the driver on Alexander Road, Metro Police said.

Donna Moran was a front-seat passenger in the 1996 Chrysler Sebring driven by John D. Moran, 39, no relation to the noted Las Vegas attorney and the late sheriff of the same name, police said.

The accident occurred about 10:40 p.m. when the car, traveling eastbound on Alexander Road, failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed the intersection and entered a construction area, police said.

The car drove off the pavement and struck some piles of gravel, becoming airborne and flipping several times, police said.

Donna Moran was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, police said. She was dead at the scene. John Moran was transported to the University Medical Center and was in serious condition this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police cited speed and possible alcohol use as contributing factors. No arrests have been made pending the completion of the investigation, police said.

It was the 25th fatal traffic action in Metro's jurisdiction, compared with 22 at the same time last year.
