Pilot, businessman Manning dies at 51

A funeral mass for John M. Manning, 51, a pilot, businessman and former Las Vegas resident, has been scheduled for 11 a.m. April 21 at St. George Catholic Church in St. George, Utah.
Manning died at his home in Bloomington, Utah, on Thursday. He was a 22-year resident of St. George.
Born on Oct. 24, 1949, in Marlborough, Mass., Manning earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology from the University of Utah in 1972. He earned a medical doctor's degree from Spartan University Medical School of El Paso, Texas, in 1984.
Manning was a businessman who dealt in health care products.
Previously, Manning was a private pilot. He also was a flight instructor and had worked as chief ground school instructor for Skywest Airlines in St. George. He also was safety director for the airline.
Manning grew up in Las Vegas, moving to Utah with his parents, John and Mary, in 1979.
His interests included running, weightlifting and reading mysteries.
He is survived by his mother, Mary V. Manning of Bloomington, Utah; a sister, Mary Manning of Las Vegas; and a niece, Michelle Whitaker of Las Vegas.
Metcalf Mortuary of St. George handled the arrangements.
The family said donations can be made in John Manning's memory to "Lights for Life" at the Dixie Regional Medical Center, 544 South 400 East, St. George, Utah 84770.
