Attorneys to help students on Law Day
Wednesday, April 11, 2001 | 8:48 a.m.
Local students will celebrate Law Day 2001 with the State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Section on May 5 at the Boulevard mall.
This year's theme is "Protecting the Best Interests of Children." Las Vegas youth were encouraged to create a poster, a short essay or both that embodied the theme.
Three winners will be selected from each category: elementary, middle and high school. Prizes for placing first include a $200 savings bond and a gold Law Day medal, and all prizes will be handed out at an awards ceremony during Law Day.
In addition to the awards ceremony, attorneys will be on hand for the Ask-a-Lawyer forum, at which attorneys will provide free legal information.
Sponsors of Law Day are also asking the public to donate their old business clothes so that they can be given to someone less fortunate for job interviews.
A number of other events are scheduled in early May to celebrate Law Day, including a 5K fun run and a charity golf tournament.
