The Clark County Fire Department responded today to a two-alarm fire at the under-construction Palms hotel-casino across from the Gold Coast on West Flamingo Road.
Fire Department spokesman Bob Leinbach said firefighters received the call about 10:20 a.m. and were on the scene within minutes with 50 to 60 firefighters and 14 to 16 units.
By 10:35 a.m. firefighters appeared to have taken the the upper hand against the blaze in the 42-story high rise. They had knocked down the fire in the lower floors of the building.
It appeared the fire started on the roof of a smaller structure adjacent to the tower.
There were no reported injuries or threats to neighboring structures, Leinbach said.
The $265 million property was scheduled to open with 470 rooms in December. It is being built by the Maloof family. Hotel spokesmen were not available this morning.
