Council certifies results of smooth primary election

Election results from the April 3 Las Vegas primary election were correct, making the tabulation of the 23,148 ballots cast easy, according to the Clark County registrar of voters.
During a special meeting Monday, the Las Vegas City Council certified the results, which were canvassed by comparing the results from a computer printout of ballots counted with the official ballot statement for the 281 election precincts used in the election.
There were no errors in the voting ballots, and one error from the 5,312 absentee mail-in ballots, an error that would not have affected the outcome of the race.
City Clerk Barbara Jo "Roni" Ronemus said that of the 199,772 registered voters, 11.59 percent turned out for the election.
Mayor Oscar Goodman called that low number pathetic.
"I think that it is shameful for a city that is supposed to be on the cutting edge of technology that we have an 11.59 percent turnout," he said.
"The people who haven't registered to vote should be ashamed of themselves. If people want to have good government, they should participate in it."
