North Las Vegas plant closing

Friday, April 6, 2001 | 11:11 a.m.

Direct-mail advertising firm Cox Target Media announced plans to close its North Las Vegas printing plant at 1840 Aerojet Way in August, a move that will eliminate 250 local jobs.

Cox Target Media is owned by media giant Cox Enterprises Inc. of Atlanta. Cox Enterprises also controls Cox Communications, the dominant cable television company in Las Vegas.

Cox Target Media said the closures of plants in Las Vegas and Washington, N.C., are tied to its decision to merge its two products: Val-Pak and Carol Wright envelopes stuffed with advertising that are mailed to millions of homes each week.

The Carol Wright envelope carried national advertising and Val-Pak carried local advertising generated by some 250 franchisees around North America. Cox said the changes won't affect its franchisees.

Workers at the North Las Vegas plant, which opened in 1993, will be given opportunities to apply with other Cox companies.
