Joe Delaney remembers—1989: Francis at Aladdin

Friday, April 6, 2001 | 10:23 a.m.

Connie Francis, born Concetta Marie Franconero in Newark, N.J., in 1938, had been away from Las Vegas for nearly two decades when she made a successful return in the Aladdin Theatre for the Performing Arts in 1989. It was also her last Las Vegas appearance. At age 20, in 1958, she had her first major recording with a 1923 composition "Who's Sorry Now." During the next five years, Francis had 25 records that made the Top 100 charts, with "Where The Boys Are" as her signature song. A failed nose operation and a traumatic personal experience caused her to stop performing in the 1960s and for most of the 1970s.
