Thursday, April 5, 2001 | 10:41 a.m.

After two years in the desert, Max Good might be returning to New England.

The former UNLV coach interviewed Wednesday for the head coaching job at Division II Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I. Good interviewed with Bryant athletic director Dan Gavitt.

"It's an impressive Division II program," Good said from Smithfield. "It's a nice area, close to the ocean. Quality of life is very important to me."

Before joining Bill Bayno's UNLV staff as an assistant in 1999, Good spent 10 years in the northeast as head coach at Maine Central Institute, a prep school.

After succeeding Bayno on Dec. 12, Good was replaced by Charlie Spoonhour last week. Good hasn't been asked to interview for a job on Spoonhour's staff.

Good will also interview next week for the No. 1 assistant's job at Ohio University, and has been contacted to become the lead assistant at Colorado.
