Sexual assault suspect accepts a plea bargain

Wednesday, April 4, 2001 | 11:05 a.m.

A Las Vegas man arrested in November for allegedly drugging three women and then videotaping his sexual assault of them cut a deal with prosecutors moments before jury selection was to begin in his trial.

Clarence "Jim" Dozier, 40, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of administering a drug in the commission of a felony and three counts of sexual assault, said defense attorney James "Bucky" Buchanan.

Sexual assault carries a sentence of 10 years to life and the drug charge is punishable by a sentence of one to 10 years, Buchanan said.

It will be up to District Judge Mark Gibbons to decide on June 12 whether to run the sentences at the same time or one after the other.

Dozier was arrested on 27 felony charges in November after one of the women woke up while being sexually assaulted and called the police.

Police, who suspect Dozier used a prescription sedative to knock the women out, seized at least one videotape of the sexual assaults.

The charges Dozier pleaded guilty to stem from three incidents involving two women.

Dozier pleaded guilty during a pre-trial hearing at which prosecutors showed Gibbons a videotape seized from Dozier.
