Winners selected in poster contest
Chrissi Vincent of Chaparral High School, Cameron Ball of Greenspun Middle School and Casey Marek of the Meadows School won their respective age groups in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area's water-safety poster contest.
Judges looked at more than 400 posters, which were hand-drawn original artwork using boat-safety themes. The posters will be displayed to show support for water safety programs.
Marek, a fourth grader, won the third through fifth grade category. Finishing second was fifth grader Dante Rocha of O.K. Adcock Elementary School, and third was fourth grader Sebastian Yepez Moreno of Walter Long Elementary School.
Finishing behind Ball, a seventh grader, in the sixth through eighth grade division were eighth grader Timothy Payne of J.D. Smith Middle School and eighth grader Edgar Edwards of Swainston Middle School.
Vincent, a junior, edged out two other Chaparral students, second place Jennifer Juniel, a senior, and third place Hannah Belanger, a sophomore.
First-place finishers won $75, second place $50, and third place $25.
