Columnist Peter Benton: Lyon, Buckley top LVCC fields

Scott Lyon won the President's Cup at the Las Vegas Country Club last weekend after recording net rounds over the par-72 layout of 66-65 -- 131. His 65 on Sunday included a hole in one on the par-3 seventh hole.

Winning on the women's side was Larren Buckley, who fired rounds of 64-70 -- 134.

First flight victor with 66-68 -- 134 was Mike Souchak. He was followed by Bill Blackard and Coe Power who tied for second with 137s.

Paul Nelson's 66-68 -- 134 narrowly won the second flight over Mike Small who shot 70-65 -- 135. Dan Schapiro and Lynn Cusey, who both came in with 141s, shared third.

Allen Vogel, with a scintillating second net round of 63, handily won the third flight with a score of 134. Bill Lattin's 66-74 -- 140 garnered second place over Paul Howell's 75-66 -- 141.

Fourth flight winner and playing in his first official tournament was Jesse Doroshow. He shot rounds of 65-69 -- 134. Gary Plumlee took second with 72-67 -- 139 and Jack Vergiels was third, scoring 70-70 -- 140.

For the ladies, Rene Raynes prevailed with 66-70 -- 136. Angela Williams followed after rounds of 72-67 -- 139 and then came the current club champion, Laurie Durant who fired 70-71 -- 141.
