Nevada gets ‘Net new car sales

DEARBORN, Mich. -- In another sign that the Internet may not produce quick changes in the way cars are sold, Ford Motor Co. announced Monday that its much-delayed Internet service had begun doing business, but in only nine states including Nevada.
In seven of those states, the website will quote only the manufacturer's suggested retail price; customers will have to send an e-mail message to a dealer to ask for a lower price. Only in New Jersey and Delaware is the new service, known as FordDirect.com, quoting prices below the suggested retail price.
The seven states in which FordDirect.com will list only Ford's suggested retail price are California, Georgia, Massachusetts, Nevada, Tennessee, Texas and Washington.
FordDirect.com is a joint venture between the automaker and its dealers.
