LV unemployment rate down
Tuesday, April 3, 2001 | 11:10 a.m.
Although unemployment in February inched up to 4.4 percent in Nevada with an estimated 44,900 people out of work, the number of new jobs increased as well, the state reported Monday.
The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation report said the February rate of unemployment was up from 4.2 percent in January, when 47,200 people were looking for jobs. The state's figure was higher than the national 4.2 percent jobless rate -- yet lower than the 4.5 percent posted in California.
The department said the Las Vegas metropolitan statistical area posted a 4.3 percent unemployment rate in February, down from 4.6 percent in January. There were an estimated 34,300 people out of work, about 1,900 less than in January. Job growth in the area was 5.8 percent from a year ago.
