Letter: Development of neighboring land inevitable

I have much sympathy for those in Henderson who are taking their complaint to City Hall, saying a developer told them the land adjoining theirs would never be built on. That may have been true many years ago, as it possibly was BLM land later given to the city.
Being a longtime resident in Las Vegas, my first piece of advice to anyone is to get everything in writing. Looking ahead, finding a vacant piece of ground in this valley will be a thing of the past unless it belongs to the entities for a park. This is a big city now and the peace, tranquillity and clear view of the mountains you were expecting forever keep getting slimmer.
As in any boomtown, to win a complaint is usually temporary -- just to console you -- but eventually they will build next to you unless you can purchase the property yourself. Moving to the area north of Craig Road and 5th Street 35 years ago, we had exactly the same thought seeing dirt roads, windmills, generators and outside privies, so we bought property and moved here. It all escalates. Now that our rural days are over, you may as well get used to it and go with the flow as we did.
