Prep football picks: Desert Pines gets nod to top Rancho
Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000 | 11 a.m.
Enough is enough. Those Jaguars of Desert Pines have accounted for three of my 10 losses on the season, so I'm jumping on the bandwagon. Some great league openers on this week's slate.
CIMARRON-MEMORIAL (4-0) at CHEYENNE (3-1), 6 p.m.
After an impressive win over a physical California squad last week, the Spartans get a different type of test against the speedy Desert Shields.
Cimarron 21, Cheyenne 7
LAS VEGAS (1-3) at ELDORADO (3-1), 6 p.m.
Coming off two straight losses, it doesn't get any easier for the Wildcats. The Sundevils look like the dominant team in the Sunrise.
Eldorado 27, Las Vegas 14
RANCHO (1-3) at DESERT PINES (4-0), 6 p.m.
Rams QB D.J. Porter is banged up, and the Jags proved they can play with the big boys last week.
Desert Pines 26, Rancho 12
DURANGO (1-3) at BISHOP GORMAN (2-2), 7 p.m.
It's hard to imagine the Blazers starting 1-4, but the Gaels are far more explosive.
Gorman 34, Durango 17
VALLEY (3-1) at SILVERADO (2-2), 6 p.m.
Skyhawks managed just 16 points against Centennial last week, and the Vikes have one of the best defenses in town.
Valley 21, Silverado 13
WESTERN (2-2) at PALO VERDE (2-2), 6 p.m.
Warriors haven't been dominant, but have enough firepower to slip past Panthers.
Western 26, Palo Verde 24
FOOTHILL (2-1) at CHAPARRAL (4-0), 6 p.m.
Falcons have had two weeks to prepare for this one. It won't be nearly enough.
Chaparral 35, Foothill 10
GREEN VALLEY (3-1) at BASIC (0-4), 6 p.m.
Gators look to avoid Henderson Bowl upset.
Green Valley 31, Basic 14
CLARK (1-3) at BONANZA (0-4), 6 p.m.
The Bengals' best remaining chance to win.
Clark 18, Bonanza 6
MOJAVE (1-3) at CENTENNIAL (0-4), 6 p.m.
Rattlers have lost three close ones.
Mojave 22, Centennial 3
Last week: 9-2 Season: 33-10 (.767)
