Ball scheduled for Navy’s anniversary

The Las Vegas Council of the Navy League will sponsor a Navy Ball in celebration of the 225th anniversary of the Navy on Oct. 14 at the Reserve hotel-casino in Henderson.
The dinner speaker for the event will be Rear Adm. Charles Griffiths Jr., the commander of Submarine Group 9 based in Bangor, Wash. The submarine group includes the nuclear ballistic submarine Nevada, which is commanded by Las Vegas native and 1978 Western High School graduate Walter Luthiger.
The Clark High School Navy Junior ROTC drill team will perform at the event. For more information, call Capt. Lawrence Jefferies at 341-7671.
Western grad honored
Terry Adler, a 1976 graduate of Western High School, was recently chosen as the "Educator of the Year" by the Society of Cost Estimating and Analysis. Adler, a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force and head of New Mexico State University's Air Force ROTC program, was recognized for his research in transaction cost theory, risk management and organizational learning while he was on the faculty of the Air Force Institute of Technology.
Adler also teaches in the College of Business Administration and Economics at New Mexico State. He attended UNLV and played basketball for the Rebels in 1976-77 before transferring to the Air Force Academy, where he graduated in 1981.
He earned a master's degree in business administration from Boston College in 1986 and doctorate in business strategy and information systems from the University of Cincinnati in 1996.
Adler is the brother of Kris Bauman, who resides with her husband, Joe, in Las Vegas.
