Two workers killed while working on sewer line
Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000 | 9:42 a.m.
Two construction workers were killed Tuesday when they were overcome with methane gas while working on a sewer line.
Fire officials said one man went into a manhole to try to clear the sewer line. The second man went in to save his co-worker, but the two never made it out.
They were not wearing enough protective gear, authorities said.
The victims' names and ages weren't immediately released, pending notification of relatives.
Safety inspectors were investigating the accident.
