Letter: Stereotyping political party is ridiculous
Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000 | 9:41 a.m.
I laughed because a statement like that is ludicrous. I have been a registered Democrat since 1968 during my senior year in college. Koleen, that is after I received that high school diploma.
All of our family has graduated from high school and two of our children graduated from college.
We are all Democrats. The only two adults I know who did not graduate are Republicans and one has NEVER voted. Actually, of all the Republicans I know, only two vote.
Neither my husband nor I nor any of our four children has collected food stamps or any form of welfare. The kids paid for college by working, not collecting any grants or applying for any loans.
I am sufficiently educated and smart enough to have figured out how to retire at 50, own my home outright, and strongly believe everyone should be responsible for their own actions. I am proudly a Democrat, as well as a moral and ethical person.
Koleen Peterson should be ashamed of herself for suggesting otherwise. Republicans such as herself seem to wallow in name-calling and making ridiculous statements. She needs a compassion transfusion, if she believes that poor people are all irresponsible, immoral and unethical.
My beliefs come from that bastion of immorality and irresponsibility, the Catholic Church. Next time, Koleen, do some research other than Rush Limbaugh and his ilk before putting your ignorance in writing.
