MCLEAN, Va. -- Nextlink Communications Inc., a competitor in the Las Vegas telecommunications industry, said it adopted the name XO Communications and is changing the way it charges customers in a bid to boost sales.
The Virginia-based company, controlled by cellular phone pioneer Craig McCaw, will offer small business customers local and long distance calls with Internet access and Internet website management services on one bill for a flat fee.
Customers will save 10 percent to 40 percent under the plan, the company said.
Nextlink in June completed the purchase of Concentric Network, a provider of data and Internet services for small and midsize businesses.
The Greenspun family, owner of the Las Vegas Sun, owns a minority stake in Nextlink's Las Vegas operation. Nextlink has a 600-mile fiber-optic network in the Las Vegas Valley.
