Letter: More scores, less promos
Monday, Sept. 25, 2000 | 6:31 a.m.
Regarding Ron Kantowski's column on UNLV football and Sam Boyd Stadium ("Thomas looks like a real pro," Sept. 18) and UNLV's failure to give out-of-town scores over the public address system:
That is the one thing that really bothers me at any UNLV game. They spend so much time doing commercials and promotions that the football and basketball games are one giant ad. I know that they make a ton of money by doing this but it is getting out of hand.
I mean, punt the football into the back of the truck? Make a free throw, three-pointer and a half-court shot? Anybody that punts the ball into the back of a truck or makes a half-court shot should receive an entire dealership, not just the use of a car for a year.
Wouldn't you think they would at least give the Mountain West scores? I mean, Colorado State and Arizona State are playing and no score. Washington State and Utah, no score.
UNLV needs to quit looking at the bottom line and start looking out for the fans.
